About Blue Mountain Beach

The towering beauty of Blue Mountain Beach lies at just 64 feet of elevation and is the highest point along the Gulf of Mexico. Legend has it that the first sailors to pass through the region thought the sand dunes were mountains. The “Blue” in its name comes from the Blue Lupine Flowers covering the sand dunes.

There are three rare Coastal Dune Lakes found at Blue Mountain Beach including Draper Lake, Little Redfish Lake, and Big Redfish Lake. These are some of the greatest charms this little beach town has. The lakes are great for kayaking, paddle boarding, and fishing. A short distance from the entrance of the public beach access is a trailhead leading to Point Washington State Forest. The trail leads the way to towering stands of longleaf pine, thick cypress swamps, and large fields covered with wildflowers that come alive in the Fall and Spring.

More To Do in Blue Mountain Beach

The food in Blue Mountain Beach is plenty and full of personality. You can kick back and enjoy a homemade pizza with a Guinness in hand or catch a live lobster on the classic drop-claw game machine during lunch at the Johnny McTighe’s Irish PubRedd’s Fueling Station and Sally’s By The Sea Store are the places to be if you love fried chicken and burgers.  For those who still want to eat healthy while on vacation, the For the Health of It will help with that - locally owned and specializing in yummy healthy smoothies, organic produce, and health supplements. It is also known for excellent massage therapy praised by many locals.

You can’t go to Blue Mountain beach and not swim given the clean and cool waters. Thus, your bathing suit should be the first thing to go into your suitcase when packing.
